The travel of metal snap dome

When you develop and design your products, you also should know the travel of the metal snap dome. So how do you measure the metal snap dome travel ? Please have a look at the following picture:

From here we can see that: the total height of metal snap dome is 0.52mm, material thickness is 0.10mm, so how about the travel? Here’s a formula:
Stroke = total height – material thickness, then the snap dome travel is 0.52-0.10=0.42mm.

How large of the metal dome array can be made by laser cutting?

With the advent of laser cutting machine, the metal dome array also can be made by it which reduce the production cost and improve production efficiency. So there are many customers choose now. But there has a limit for laser cutting, it’s the how large can be made by it?

The maximum effective area in accordance with current laser cutting machine is: 100mm*120mm we can make. If the size of dome array over this, we would recommend to set up mold, or make it into several parts.

What kind of snap dome is suitable to make metal dome array?

Today we talk about what kind of snap dome is suitable to make metal dome array? Metal dome array is covered with a layer which has attached snap dome (metal dome) under.

Round snap domes are the most commonly used in metal dome array, such as our mobile phone.The cross snap dome is used in the membrane switches, so it’s also can make into metal dome array. Triangle snap dome with legs can’t make into dome array, as it’s with two leg, we can’t assemble it on the dome sheet.

How to deal with snap domes dirty?

Sometimes  we may receive the goods with dirty. Where do the dirty comes into the snap domes? Then how should we deal with snap domes dirty?

Snap domes must be kept clean, as it can affect the contact. We must keep no stains, grease, burrs, crushing, stamping, scratched and so on on the surface.Dirty comes from the mold and it doesn’t clean well. In the final step, we clean the snap domes by ultrasonic, and then drying, quality testing,
visual inspection, and then packaging and storage.

We will ensure each snap dome (metal dome) is made by CMD which without the dirty, with the high quality. If the snap domes have the dirty, please send back to us, we will replace for it for you.

Metal dome array structure

1. Single-layer:  It’s just one Mylar with snap domes.

2. Double-layer: Top layer is Mylay, 0.025mm thickness; below with Spacer with snap domes(spacer layer), 0.05mm or 0.075mm thickness;

3. third or more -layer: such as our EMI dome array, LGF dome array, there is a extra layer with EMI or LGF one the top layer.

What’s the difference between Laser cutting and mold to make metal dome array?

How to make metal dome array? There are two ways: laser cutting and set up the mold. Today, Let’s have a look the difference between them:

Laser cutting                mold
(1). Cost:  no tooling fee         tooling cost higher
(2). Tolerance: +/-0.20mm               +/-0.15mm
(3). Capacity:   10K/day                  50K/day

If your order quantity is relatively large and requirements is relatively high, we suggest you set up mold, and when your order quantity reach a certain number of the amount, it will be returned to you. If you are small in number, we suggest you use our laser cutting for production of metal dome array, as it’s very fast and convenient.

Snap dome force is the the maximum force when we press down the metal snap dome, we use the grams or “N” unit. We require our snap dome with stable force to ensure the stability of the click feeling. Generally the tolerance of the snap dome is ±20g-± 30g. the quality of our products is very good,

What’s the tolerance of the metal dome array?

Generally speaking, whatever products made do have a certain tolerance.Then what’s the tolerance of the metal dome array?

According to different production methods, metal dome array tolerance is also different.

1. Laser cutting tolerances: about 0.15-0.20mm;
2. Mold making: can be controlled in 0.10mm.

If your order quantity is not so many, then I suggest you use our laser cutting to make, it can save you the cost of mold. But if your order is larger and the size we can’t make with laser cutting, then we should set up the mold.

Now you should clear the tolerance of the metal dome array, you can choose to which one is better for you, no matter which you choose, we are very pleased to cooperate with you.
